Inhomogeneity within Local Interstellar Clouds*

چکیده
Abstract Analysis of interstellar absorption lines observed in high-resolution Hubble Space Telescope spectra nearby stars provides temperatures, turbulent velocities, and kinetic properties warm clouds. A new analysis 97 interstellar-velocity components reveals a wide range temperatures velocities within the Local Interstellar Cloud (LIC) Cluster Clouds (CLIC). These variations appear to be random with Gaussian distributions. We find no trends these stellar distance or angles from Galactic Center, magnetic field, main source extreme-UV radiation (the star ? CMa), center LIC, direction inflowing matter into heliosphere. The spatial scale for temperature LIC is likely smaller than 5100 au, that Sun will traverse 1000 yr. Essentially all velocity align known 4 pc Sun, space completely filled partially ionized clouds, but at larger distances only neutral hydrogen number density other clouds CLIC about 0.10 cm ?3 rather 0.20 may representative immediate environment LIC. ?3000–12,000 K gas wider predictions thermal equilibrium theoretical models medium medium, high degree inhomogeneity argues against simple models.

Exotic clouds in the local interstellar medium
The neutral interstellar medium (ISM) inside the Local Bubble (LB) has been known to have properties typical of the warm neutral medium (WNM). However, several recent neutral hydrogen (HI) absorption experiments show evidence for the existence of at least several cold diffuse clouds inside or at the boundary of the LB, with properties highly unusual relative to the traditional cold neutral medi...
متن کاملExtragalactic molecular clouds and chemistry of diffuse interstellar clouds
Zusammenfassung Since the discovery of a cold molecular component of the interstellar medium in the 1970s, it has been realized that most of the dark clouds are actually molecular clouds, consisting mainly of molecular hydrogen and some amount of dust and other molecules. Nowadays, molecular clouds are recognized as places of star-formation in the Milky Way and other galaxies. Therefore, studie...
متن کاملEnigma of H3 + in Diffuse Interstellar Clouds
1. INTRODUCTION H 3 + is of fundamental importance to interstellar chemistry both because it is a hydrogenic species (and >90% of all nuclei in the universe are hydrogen nuclei; see Figure 1) and because it serves as the universal protonator, initiating a chain of ion-neutral reactions that is responsible for the formation of most interstellar molecules. The chemistry of H 3 + in dense (molecul...
